Getting started

How do I get started?

Send me a message or book a free 15-minute chat, and I'll reply within 24 hours. Get in touch.

Who do you work with?

I offer 1:1 counselling for children and young people aged 7+ and for adults.

What happens in a first session?

For children and young people, we'll start with a relaxed session so they can get to know me and decide whether it feels right. I'll also talk with parents or carers about how we'll work together. For adults, we'll talk about what has brought you here and what you'd like to be different.

How many sessions will we need?

It varies. Some people find a short block of sessions helpful, while others prefer longer-term support. We'll review how things are going together at regular points, and you're always free to stop.

Do you offer couples or family counselling?

No. I work with individuals only. If you're looking for couples or family therapy, I'm happy to talk through what to look for, and where to find a suitably qualified practitioner.

Children and young people

Will you tell me what my child says?

Counselling works best when children and young people know their sessions are a safe, private space. I won't share the details of what they tell me, but I will keep you updated in general terms, such as how they're engaging and how things are going. This is facilitated through phone calls when required.

The exception is if I'm concerned that your child or someone else is at risk of serious harm. In that case I may need to share information, and I'd talk to you and your child first wherever it's safe to do so.

Does my child need my consent?

For children under 16, I ask for the consent of a parent or carer with parental responsibility before we begin, and I also ask the child whether they'd like to take part.

Do you see sixth form students on their own?

Yes. Young people aged 16+ can arrange and attend on their own in person or online, and I keep parents informed in general terms only where agreed.

Do you work with Autistic and ADHD clients?

Yes. I warmly welcome Autistic, ADHD and AuDHD children, young people and adults, whether diagnosed, self-identified or exploring, and I adapt sessions to suit sensory and communication needs.

Can you diagnose my child or write reports?

No. I offer counselling, not diagnosis or assessment, and I'm not able to write reports for legal or educational purposes. I'm happy to talk through who else might be involved, such as school, your GP or other services.

Exam stress

How do I know if my teenager's exam stress is more than normal?

Some nerves are normal. It may be worth seeking support if the worry is constant, is affecting sleep, mood or friendships, leads to avoiding school, or doesn't ease once exams are over.

Can counselling help with perfectionism?

Counselling can give young people a space to explore where their high standards come from and how they affect them, and to find a kinder way of relating to themselves. Everyone is different, so I can't promise particular outcomes.

When is the best time to start before exams?

Earlier is usually easier than waiting for a crisis, but it's never too late. Please get in touch to talk through what would help, including with a free 15-minute chat.

Sessions and practicalities

Where do sessions take place?

In person in Bourton-on-the-Water, in the Cotswolds, and online. There is parking available and my counselling room has a range of creative resources to support the process.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes. I offer online sessions for adults and young people aged 16+, as well as in-person sessions in Bourton-on-the-Water.

Is counselling confidential for adults?

Yes. What you tell me stays between us, with a few exceptions: if there's a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, or if I'm legally required to share information. I also discuss my work in supervision, but without identifying you. You'll get a full explanation in the first session, along with a written agreement.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged at the full fee, except in cases of emergency.

What if I need to rearrange or take a break?

Just let me know as soon as you can and we can discuss options.

Do you offer crisis or urgent support?

No. I'm not an emergency service. If you or your child are in immediate danger, please contact your GP, NHS 111, or emergency services (999). Samaritans are available on 116 123.

How do you keep my information safe?

I keep records securely and in line with data protection law. You can read more in my privacy notice. I'm happy to explain what I keep and for how long.

Are you qualified and insured?

Yes. I have completed the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling for Adults, Children & Young People (2026). I am an NCPS Accredited Registrant MNCPS (Acc.), membership number NCS24-04984. I hold professional indemnity insurance, have an enhanced DBS check, and receive regular clinical supervision.
