Counselling for children and young people

Counselling for Children and Young People in Bourton-on-the-Water

Sometimes children find it hard to put big feelings into words. That's where I can help.

I offer counselling in Bourton-on-the-Water for children aged 7+ and young people who are struggling with worries, anxiety, big emotions, friendships, change, or feeling low or overwhelmed.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent over a decade as a primary school teacher, including leading mental health in school. I understand what children's days look like, and how home and school can affect each other.

How I work

Every child is different, so I work at their pace. Sessions might include talking, but also drawing, play, painting, music, and other creative activities, especially for children who find it hard to say how they feel.

Young people can choose how much they want to talk and what feels comfortable, and I follow their lead. I also help children and young people find ways to tell the adults around them what they need, at a pace that feels safe, so they feel heard at home and at school.

Neurodivergent children welcome

I warmly welcome children and young people who are Autistic, ADHD or AuDHD, whether diagnosed, self-identified or exploring. Sessions are sensory-friendly and flexible, and don't depend on sitting still and talking.

What a first session looks like

We'll start with a relaxed conversation, so your child can get to know me and see whether counselling feels right. I'll also talk with you about how we'll work together, including how confidentiality works for children and what I'll share with parents.

Involving parents

I keep parents and carers informed in a way that respects your child's privacy, through phone calls with parents when needed.

Practical details

Sessions are 50 minutes in person in Bourton-on-the-Water, and online sessions are available for ages 16+. For children under 16, I ask for the consent of a parent or carer.
