About me
About Charlotte, Counsellor in Bourton-on-the-Water
Hello, I'm Charlotte.
I'm a counsellor in Bourton-on-the-Water working with children, young people and adults, and the person behind Reflective Perspective Counselling.
Before retraining, I spent over a decade as a primary school teacher, then continued working with children in museum education workshops, before completing my counselling placements in schools. I led mental health in school, trained as a middle leader, delivered training to colleagues and led workshops for children and parents. That time taught me how much children's emotional wellbeing shapes their learning, and how often families and schools struggle to find a shared language.
That's why I became a counsellor. I wanted more time and space to sit alongside people, especially children who find it hard to put feelings into words. I believe everyone deserves to be understood, and to feel able to say what they need.
My approach
I'm warm, unhurried and curious. I take a person-centred approach, which means you're the expert on your own life. Where it's helpful, I draw on ideas from CBT (looking at how thoughts, feelings and behaviours connect), and ACT (making room for difficult feelings while moving towards what matters to you).
I tailor the work to you, and work alongside you to build a deeper understanding of yourself and to support you to express what you think and feel. With children and young people, I often use creative activities alongside talking, and I work sensitively with parents throughout the process.
